Sam "Sambo" and Gennie Clendenin


Samuel A. Clendenin Jr., was born December 10, 1920, in Newport, OK, the fourth child born to Samuel A. Clendenin Sr. and Myrtle (Cypert) Clendenin. He died July 29, 1996 after a short illness in Ardmore, OK

He graduated from high school in Ardmore, OK and in Mid-adulthood received his Master’s Degree in Psychology.

He and his younger brother enlisted in United States Army after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. After his discharge he returned to Ardmore where he spent almost fifty years in Senior Management at Imperial Refining in Ardmore, OK.

Sambo, as he was affectionately known by close friends and family, married Rogene “Genie” (Horner) Clendenin of Ardmore and they spent many years living on their small farm east of the city. Upon retirement they moved to Salisbury St. in Ardmore. He is survived by his wife Genie and one son, Sammy Lynn Clendenin of Marietta, GA. And his family and one Brother Carl C. Clendenin, and three Sisters Inez Anthony and Betty Ruth Burris and Sarah Jo Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul Clendenin, R.A. Clendenin.
