Glen Of The Fair Hill
A History of the Extended Clendenin Clan

Chapter 5
Geneology

Before DNA tracking the most effective way to follow a family tree was through a Genealogy document. They are often not 100% accurate. Gaps, wrong dates and omissions and additions were common. One of the tricks is learning to read and follow a particular lineage.

No organization does this task better than the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (Mormons) in their historical records deep under a mountain in Utah. Our own 2nd Cousin Ivol Cypert and his wife Loraine worked for two years as volunteers at the center.

Several years ago I received an exhaustive packet from a Carol Clendenin of Stephenville, TX. She referred to herself as Cuz Carol but she was many times removed from our line. I had previously met her in Cloudcroft, NM. Therefore the following documentation is from her and her research in Utah.

Quill II -- Irish Blessing

Descendants of Charles Clendenin
CHARLES CLENDENIN
(WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2 GLENDINING, WILLIAM )
was Born 1796 in N. Carolina and died Bef. August 07, 1848 in Lewis Co. Tn.
He married FRANCES ARMSTRONG September 15, 1827 in, Orange Co. N. Carolina, daughter of JOSEPH ARMSTRONG and FRANCES TINNEN.

ALVIS B. CLENDENIN
b. April 12, 1855, TN, d. September 23, 1943, Bur. Lone Grove Cem. Carter Co., OK.

A.B. CLENDENIN Lived 40 years after his Widow died. Documentation is difficult to find and most family seemed to say little about him. He remains one of the mysteries of the family. As far as I know there is only one photo of him. He is standing next to Granddaddy and Uncle Paul. If we assume that Paul was at least 6’3” and guess that Granddaddy is 5’7” by comparison A.B. must have barely been 5’ tall. One cannot see his feet to examine them for being hairy but there remains the possibility that we are all descendants of Hobbits.
SAMUEL ALVIS CLENDENIN
(Alvis B.6, JOSEPH ARMSTRONG5 , CHARLES4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2 GLENDINNING, WILLIAM1)
was born February 17, 1888 in, Wayne Co., TN.
He married MYRTLE CYPERT December 18, 1910 in Newport, OK.

Lordy! Lordy! This is making my head hurt. This will give you a taste of how cumbersome these detailed records can become. I think for our purposes a simpler family tree will suffice. Once again our beloved A.B. CLENDENIN seems to have an excellent curve-ball
