Cameron and Sara Jo "Sally" (Clendenin) Cox


Sally was born June 8, 1926, in Ardmore, OK, the second youngest of seven children of Samuel A. and Myrtle (Cypert) Clendenin. She died on February 17, 2017 in Fort Worth, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cameron Lee Cox, in 2013 after nearly 65 years of marriage. Sally graduated from Ardmore High School and attended Oklahoma College for Women and East Central. She was later accepted into the flight attendant program for American Airlines. She married Cameron Cox on September 3, 1948 and could not continue as an airline stewardess as they were not allowed to be married in those early days. Cameron earned his degree in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Oklahoma and they embarked upon a long journey in the oil industry that took them from the Gulf of Mexico to the Rocky Mountains and Alaska. Sally was preceded in death by her six brothers and sisters, including her beloved younger sister Betty Ruth Burris.

She is survived by her two sons, Randal Lee & Rose Cox of Anchorage, Alaska and Stanley Wade & Barbara Cox of Fort Worth, TX; and daughter JoCarol and Robert Woodburn of Hooksett, New Hampshire and several grandchildren. She is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore, OK.
