Carl was born December 18, 1922, in Newport, OK, the son of Sam and Myrtle (Cypert) Clendenin. He died March 21, 2003 in Sherman, TX.
He graduated from high school in Ardmore, OK, and received his Master’s degree in agronomy from Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941, beginning a career in the United States Air Force that lasted 27 years until he retired in 1968. During World War II, Carl was a glider pilot, transporting soldiers, equipment and supplies into enemy territories. On D-Day he played a key role by landing his glider safely at Normandy.
Carl and Lucile (Skinner Grimes) Clendenin were married on January 25, 1952, in Montgomery, AL, while he was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base. He is survived by his wife, Lucile of Sherman, TX, two sons, Bruce Clendenin, Dallas, TX and David and Meg Clendenin, of Sherman. TX; three grandchildren, three sisters, Inez Anthony and Betty Ruth Burris, of Ardmore, OK, and Sally Jo Cox, of Houston, TX; Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Paul Clendenin, R.A. Clendenin and Sam Clendenin Jr.
